Introducing Anthropocene

Future Earth
2016

Anthropocene is a digital, print and live magazine in which the world’s most creative writers, designers, scientists and entrepreneurs explore how we can create a sustainable human age we actually want to live in. “I’m most interested in this transition, between a state in which humans were a part of the world, to a state in which humans have fundamental capacity to change the world,” says Anthropocene founder Josh Tewksbury. “And I think that’s the state we’re in now.”

Technically, the Anthropocene is a proposed new epoch of geological time in which human activity has changed the environment so significantly that we’re now leaving a mark in the rock record. Introducing Anthropocene explores both the scientific definition and societal opportunity behind the word. We created this film for the publication’s debut at the Habitat 3 conference in Quito, Ecuador.
