Methow Headwaters Protected
Today, the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act became law. This historic package of public lands bills includes legislation that protects 340,079 acres in the Methow headwaters from industrial-scale mining. Permanently! It is a remarkable achievement that’s a testament to overwhelming community support, a strategic coalition of advocacy organizations and tireless leadership from our elected representatives.
As filmmakers, community members and parents, we don’t often get to share stories about environmental victories and bipartisan collaboration. This is one to be proud of! A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this happen in our small valley and beyond. We especially want to recognize Senators Cantwell and Murray and Congressman Newhouse, those who stepped up to participate in our film and testimonials, Maggie and Hannah at the Methow Headwaters campaign, The Wilderness Society, Patagonia Seattle, Mountaineers Foundation and LightHawk (for flying three photo missions in support of the campaign). Stay tuned for a big community celebration!
