Snowmaking at Snoqualmie

It was great to see so many familiar faces at the Henry! Thanks for coming to check out our new work, and for the great discussion after our presentation. (See photos on Blue Earth’s blog.) For those of you who couldn’t make it, the show included an all-new multimedia piece featuring Mike Moore. He manages the terrain park and snowmaking at The Summit at Snoqualmie. As one of the lowest elevation ski areas in the West, their snowpack is particularly sensitive to warming.

Benj shot these images during one long night last January. In the morning, the pass closed for a week because of avalanches and rain. It was another month before Snoqualmie received any significant new snow. A big thank you to LightHawk and pilot Val Tollefson for helping us shoot the aerials.

Be sure to join Tim Matsui on May 9th for the next lecture in Blue Earth’s series at the Henry.
