About Benj + Sara

As a documentary team, we collaborate with nonprofits, academic institutions, publications and others to create change through filmmaking, photography and interactive design. We particularly love to make science personal and to build teams to amplify the impact of purpose-driven work.

Our films have been featured by Telluride Mountainfilm, Wild & Scenic Film Festival, EarthxFilm, International Wildlife Film Festival, DCEFF and many other festivals. Benj’s photography has appeared in National Geographic, The New York Times, Smithsonian and other publications. We’ve presented at a variety of events and venues, from prisons and universities to Blue Earth’s Collaborations for Cause. Benj is a certified FAA Part 107 Remote UAS Pilot, a fellow with the International League of Conservation Photographers and serves as president of the board of directors for the Methow Conservancy. Sara is currently the vice president of the Methow Valley Fund, held at the Community Foundation of North Central Washington.

Our first collaboration was an exploration of people and landscape in the high Peruvian Andes. It was made possible by a fellowship from Carleton College in 2001, and involved slide dissolve units and falling in love. We live with our son, Finn, in Washington’s Methow Valley. Follow along on our personal photo blog, Storer Creek Stories.

Watching them work as a team is truly inspiring. They are much like a pair of sculptors, beginning with the hard rock of an academic who is not used to giving interviews and being photographed, and peeling away the layers of protection to expose the passion that each person brings into the world.

UAS cinematography

Whit is an FAA-certified UAS pilot and ecologist who has contributed her unique aerial perspective to most of our recent projects. We’ve watched her fly off boats, in the dark and down trails with a quiet certitude we can only aspire to. She’s based in the Pacific Northwest.
